This got me thinking up till now and seeing that I had neglected one thing all along: Personal brand.
I have a pretty good job and there is no need to find a job. But I have underestimated the importance of a positive internet presence.
I’m sure that for other companies, this is a different story. It made me think about my own personal brand and inspire me to change my image on the internet. Here are some of the things I’ve done, some observations I’ve been and some simple steps that I believe you need to do.
A good domain name is great if you want to build a business. But personal branding needs to be personalized. This does not matter if you have 1000 traffic to the website or not, it is related to personal branding.
In fact, people rarely visit your site. But when the employer needs to find you online by typing your name on google, then come out first.
Your blog is not necessarily flashy or luxurious. A WordPress blog with a free theme is more than enough to get you started. It also doesn’t show that you show off your skills or projects, it’s really just for people to find you online.
You don’t focus on words or spend hours every day looking after your blog. Should only do when free, weekends, evenings at home… But you must post regularly and appropriately.
I personally don’t use social media much. But I changed when I thought about personal branding. Social networks become a valuable content distribution channel.
Besides being part of the community, keeping up with the news and event industry is also a good way. At the same time, you can also break the gap by building relationships at meet-ups.
